Fleet Mechanic

SUMMARY
A Fleet Mechanic is responsible to perform repair work and maintenance for gas and diesel cars and trucks, as well as off-road, construction and landscape equipment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains vehicles, which includes Summit’s fleet of cars, trucks, heavy equipment, trailers, heavy duty dump trucks, skid steers, and other motor vehicles and attachments.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups on gas and diesel engines.
- Performs tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
- Identifies mechanical, electrical, and fuel system problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment or other tools. Makes necessary repairs based on product manuals or shared information.
- Examines critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
- Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, electrical components, and other mechanical parts.
- Establishes timetable and meets goals to complete repairs and maintenance.
- Drives to job sites to repair vehicles as needed.
- Test drives vehicles and company equipment to confirm safe and proper operation.
- Operates a variety of hand tools and power tools. Uses compression gauges, ammeters, and voltmeters to test engine performance. Uses pneumatic tools, diagnostic equipment and computer, as well as various positioning aids including hoists, jacks and creepers.
